Frequently Asked Questions

There’s already 47891 goth nights in the city. Why are you starting another one?

Short answer:
well, folks, you asked us to.

Long answer:
we thought it would help. The rising tide lifts all ships. People kept saying things like “I wish you and you and you all had a night together”. So we did it. A big tent where everyone can come together. We can bring all the cool things we do in our various projects and bring them to a bigger place where everyone can see. And we will keep doing that. We are a core group but we are by no means trying to keep people out. We always wanted to be a rather porous group where but folks can trust us and who we bring. We will be featuring a lot of guests and emerging DJs as well as other surprises in the future.

Community.

At the end of the day, people go to a night because everyone else is going. The music brings people together but the people are what makes the community. There are still some folks out there that are looking for a place. The dark places of this world often serve them best. Believe it or not, Goth nights of every stripe are consistently some of the safest in the city. We don’t tolerate harassment and we welcome, with open arms, weirdos that don’t otherwise have a place. A bigger tent means folks from the metal, punk, trans, alternative, and beautiful misfits of every sort can all come together. When that happens, we all grow.

What else are you up to?

Well…We are going to continue to try and identify needs and opportunities and build things for them now that we are all together and talking to each other.

Shows:

For a long time, the model that worked best was Show First, Dance Night After. In various spots around the city we want to do that again. In a consistent way. In a way people know what they are getting and in a way where folks stumble upon what they were looking for.

Shows bring new people together but then once they are over…folks go home. What if they didn’t? What if after the show you can stick around and talk to each other or just work off the extra excitement or maybe you work and you were only going to make it for an hour of the show but now you WILL go because now there’s stuff happening.

We want to start, as a group, tacking ourselves on to the back of events and bringing that really necessary stuff back into things. We think that a consistent experience will build trust and bookers and venues will see the value in what we do.

Will you be doing this more than once or twice a month?

To be transparent, yes, the goal ultimately is to have Friday be the night where you can find a KULT made thing somewhere in the city, in a consistent way. You will know when things will be and who is going to be there. Your entertainment and your friends , always together and growing.

There are many factors in play that make being hosted by a venue every week tricky. But ultimately the more growth the better it gets. People who book shows will want to put them around us and before us. Everyone wins.

What was that you said about not just Goth music?

Yeah, we did say that. Some of the most successful “goth” nights are not just goth nights. Nights that blend a mix of genres offer a host of options and bring more types of people together. We wanted to bring elements of the metal scene, club culture, indie and punk all together and give them a place that made sense for them. A lot of folks don’t quite fit nearly into one bucket so we’ve made something that everyone that shows up will get at least some of “their music” played.
